The spirit of cricket was alive this summer at Open Fields School with our very own Open Fields Premier League (OFPL) – a thrilling cricket league specially devised just for our summer campers! Inspired on the lines and spirit of IPL, OFPL was one of the most eagerly awaited camp highlights and brought alive teamwork, sportsmanship, and memories that would linger for a lifetime.
Teams
Our enthusiastic campers were divided into four fun and aptly named teams named after Bharatpur’s glorious past – Brij Bouncers (BB), Keoladeo Kings (KK), Lohagarh Legends (LL), and Ranjeet Royals (RR). The idea was to provide a competitive but with fun so that every child had a chance to show off his or her skills – batting, bowling, fielding, or encouraging their mates.
Format
Just like any typical league, every team was set to compete against every other team in a set of matches and 2 points would be awarded to the winning team per match. In case of tie, team with higher run rate would be ranked higher. The format was just like professional cricket and the two teams with highest points were to advance and compete for the grand final for the highly desired OFPL trophy.
Schedule
The schedule for the league matches was as below
- 11th Jun: BB vs KK, LL vs RR
- 18th Jun: BB vs LL, KK vs RR
- 25th Jun: BB vs RR, KK vs LL
- 27th Jun: TBD vs TBD
Final was to be played on 27th Jun between the top two teams of the league table.
Open Fields Premier League – Match Day Highlights
The excitement was peaking as our young champions lit up the pitch with two scintillating league matches on the opening day at Open Fields Premier League (OFPL)! Below is the summary of the first day league matches.
League Match 1: Brij Bouncers vs. Keoladeo Kings
In a heart-stopping start, Brij Bouncers (BB) set down a strong foundation with 77 runs from 8 overs losing just 2 wickets. Anchoring from the front was star batsman Aniket scoring a scorching 24 runs. But Prerna from Keoladeo Kings (KK) bounced back strongly and snapped 2 valuable wickets.
KK put on a gallant chase with 60 runs from 7.5 overs and losing just 1 wicket. Mitansh top-scored with 20 runs and Garvit took a crucial wicket for BB. It was due to BB's sharp fielding and team spirit that they won the match!
League Match 2: Ranjeet Royals vs Lohagarh Legends
Ranjeet Royals (RR) burst on the scene with an unbeatable 63 runs for 8 overs without losing even a single wicket! The icing on the cake was Manya's rampage to a stylish 24 runs. The solid batting by RR kept the scores churning!
Lohagarh Legends (LL) put their best efforts but could only muster 40 runs from 7.5 overs with 1 wicket down. Dakshit's vital scalp for RR was appropriately backed by top-scoring Pihu's 12 runs. Class and confidence triumphed on the day as RR snatched a convincing victory. 👑
